Hi, friend! It's that time of year! A time of holiday and end-of-year frenzies π΅βπ«, as well as pause and reflection on the year past and contemplation of the year to come π€. For me, at the end of each year, I reflect on my goals for that year and set goals for the new one. Knowing what I'll be working on next year helps me feel better prepared. And I want to help you feel better prepared too! So I've put together this list of 4 things you can do to β¨Get Ready for 2024β¨π Create or Update Your Grants Calendar A well-organized grants calendar should be the backbone of your grantseeking efforts. It can be in any format you prefer (calendar, spreadsheet, document, etc.). A grants calendar helps you stay aware of upcoming deadlines, giving you plenty of time to put a proposal or report together. By anticipating what's coming down the line and preparing for them early, you'll be better situated to handle last-minute items (like the grant you just found out about that's perfect for your program and due in two days). π Reach Out to Your Funders and Prospects Building and maintaining relationships with funders is crucial. This time of year, they are being inundated with requests. You can stand out by simply wishing them a "Happy Holiday" or "Happy New Year" and thanking them for what they do. No agenda. This is a subtle way to stay on their radar while cultivating that relationship. π Identify Your Funding Gaps Understanding your organization's funding gaps is really important for strategic planning. Identifying areas/programs lacking in financial support will help you target specific funding opportunities that address these gaps. This creates a more targeted and successful grantseeking approach in 2024. π Review and Reflect on the Previous Year A retrospective analysis provides valuable insights into what worked well over the past year and helps identify any areas for improvement. By reflecting on 2023, you can refine strategies, build on successes, and learn from challenges, ultimately enhancing your grantseeking in the year ahead. By addressing these four key areas - updating your grants calendar, nurturing relationships through some "seasons' greetings," identifying funding gaps, and reflecting on the past year - you can position yourself and your organization for a successful and impactful 2024! These steps will help you develop a more organized and proactive approach to grants, one that is set up for long-term sustainability and success. Whenever you're ready, here are some ways I might be able to help you:

Hi, friend! π It's been a while since I've shown up in your inbox and I'd like to take a moment to explain why. So grab a cup of coffee (or your beverage of choice - any other Diet Coke lovers out there?), and let's catch up. First things first, content creation takes a lot of time and energy - much more than you might think. I tip my hat to content creators that are able to post every day, manage a newsletter, and more. Even when using AI to help, it's far from easy to do. And lately, I've...
Hi, friend! π I recently put out my first poll on LinkedIn, asking people what they feel is the most challenging aspect of finding funding.I thought I knew the answer. I thought I was going to get scores of people telling me that time was the biggest challenge. I thought that because that's what I've heard in a lot of my conversations with nonprofit executives and staff looking for grant opportunities. I still might be right... But the one person who responded to my poll didn't agree with me....
Hi, friend! π Question for you: how do you feel about going to the dentist? I don't really mind it. In fact, if you follow me on LinkedIn, you might have seen that, apparently, I like to think of grant writing while in the dentist's chair. Who knew? You can check out that post here. (Side note: if we're not connected on LinkedIn, we should be!) Anyway... Today, I'd like to talk about a tool I started using a few months ago: Grammarly. You might have heard of it. It's been around for a while....
